For many years, Mumbaikars have been using the UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app to book local train tickets. The app made it easy to book local tickets, passes, and unreserved tickets. However, from March 1, the app will be permanently discontinued for passengers.
Currently, the app has already stopped offering pass booking services, and in a few days, all services will be discontinued, leaving Mumbaikars wondering how to book tickets going forward.
The Indian Railways launched the UTS app on December 27, 2014. Initially available only for certain railway divisions, it gradually expanded to cover cities across India.
For booking Mumbai local train tickets, the UTS app was a convenient option. But with its closure, passengers will now need to switch to RailOne.
Pass booking on RailOne has already been available for the past month, and starting March 1, it will be the only platform for all ticket bookings.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had launched RailOne in July 2025 on the 40th anniversary of the Centre of Railway Information System. Initially, the platform supported reserved ticket bookings, especially for long-distance trains.
Now, RailOne will allow passengers to book both reserved and unreserved tickets. This means that instead of using multiple apps, all types of tickets can now be booked in one place.
Officials have advised passengers to start using RailOne early to avoid last-minute issues.
Money available in passengers’ UTS R-Wallets will be safely transferred to their RailOne accounts.
Using the RailOne app, Mumbaikars can book tickets via UPI, debit card, credit card, net banking, or the R-Wallet.
Apart from ticket booking, RailOne offers several other features: live train location, train delay updates, coach position, platform information, ticket cancellation, and PNR tracking.
Through the RailMadad feature, passengers can also register complaints. Additionally, food can be ordered during travel from IRCTC-authorized vendors via the app.
