The price of vegetables have seen a sharp rise due to the decrease in supply at the wholesale Vashi market in Navi Mumbai. Traders said that most vegetables saw around 20 to 30 per cent prices last week. Generally, supply decreases during summer and monsoon.
At present, 540 to 560 truckloads of vegetables are arriving at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Vashi. Interestingly, 539 vehicles entered the market on Tuesday, June 13.
Vegetable prices skyrocketed
Tomato, which was available at INR 30 per kg, has reached INR 60 per kg. A total of 2887 quintals of tomatoes have arrived in the market on Tuesday and its wholesale price ranges from INR 20 to INR 32 per kg. They are being sold at INR 50 to 60 per kg in the retail market.
In the retail market, guar, okra, green chillies, capsicums are being sold at INR 60-80 per kg, flower at INR 30-40 per kg, brinjal at INR 60-80 per kg and ginger at INR 180 per kg. Also, coriander is INR 30 to 40 per kg, while fenugreek INR Rs 20 to 40 per kg.
