In Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayandar areas, which are considered as suburbs of Mumbai city, people have been facing water supply problems for the last many years. However, now it has come to light that this problem is going to be resolved soon.
In order to solve the water problem of Vasai-Virar and Mira-Bhayander, the work of setting up a water treatment plant at Palghar, which was taken up by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), has been almost completed.
Additionally, to provide pure water to the citizens, the work of investigation has been started in this plant under the water purification process.
Water supply will start in Vasai and Virar from June under the first phase as soon as the work of investigation of water treatment plant is completed. The work on the plant has reached a higher advanced stage, said MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas.
MMRDA is also working on a plan to bring water from Surya river. For this about 88 km. The work of laying long pipeline has also almost been completed.
The pipeline will pass through underground and above ground. 1.7 km in Mendhavkhind to bring water to the suburb. An underground tunnel has also been prepared. This tunnel of 2.85 diameter has been prepared with the help of Vighnaharta tunnel boring machine.
Tunneling work has been completed in Mendwankhind and Tungareshwar tunnel work is going on fast> 403 MLD water will be supplied daily under Surya Jalpurti Yojana. Out of this, Mira-Bhayander will get 218 MLD water and Vasai-Virar 185 MLD water.
The responsibility of this project has been entrusted to Larsen & Toubro Company INR 1,329 crores will be spent on this project.
