The water supply in Thane district, which was disrupted due to repair work undertaken by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) last week, is yet to be restored. This has led to severe water scarcity in Kalwa, Mumbra, Diva areas. It is also time for the industrialists to close down the Wagle Estate, Dombivli industrial belt due to lack of water.

Last Thursday, on January 7, MIDC had undertaken the repair work of the water main at Jambul Water Treatment Plant. For this, water supply was cut off for 24 hours. However, the water supply was cut off for another 16 hours due to delay in work. MIDC also started low pressure water supply after completion of work on Saturday morning, January 9, and increased water pressure in the evening. However, the engineering department failed to control this pressure.

The aqueduct burst near the window on the Shilphata road affected the water supply. As result, in Thane and surrounding cities water supply was cut off again. By repairing the waterways, MIDC tried to restore water supply to the cities on Sunday afternoon, January 10 but the distribution system had collapsed till then. However, it led to severe water shortage in Kalwa, Mumbra, Diva areas. Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) diverted water from other sources to Mumbai. As a result, low pressure water supply was provided in Ghodbunder, Vartaknagar belt.
