According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) assessed the current drinking water situation and mentioned that water can be supplied for nearly five months or 160 days from the seven lakes.

Based on accounts, in accordance with the data, as of March 20, the lakes are nearly 43 per cent full which will supply water seamlessly for the next 160 days. This time, last year, the water stock was 40 per cent. On the other hand, the livestock of water is 50 per cent in Tulsi Lake and 40 per cent in Vehar Lake.

It has been reported that in 2021, from July 16 and July 23, the catchment areas of the lakes attained a maximum of their stock. Prior to that, the civic authority was almost going to announce a water cut since the water level in the seven lakes was at a mere 17 per cent, cited narratives.

On the other hand, by July 22, the water level had breached the 50 per cent level and by July 24 was 60 per cent, while on July 28 it was 70 per cent.

In accordance with a report by the Hindustan Times, Thane’s Bhatsa dam supplies 55 per cent of the aggregate yearly water requirement of Mumbai, has 45 per cent of the water stock, last year it was at 42 per cent.

Similarly, the water supply of that of Upper Vaitarna as of Monday, March 21 was 40 per cent, which last year was at 53 per cent. Likewise, that of Middle Vaitarna which last year was at 23 per cent is presently at 41 per cent. The BMC reportedly supplies 3,850 million litres of water to Mumbai on a daily basis.
