Finally, the BMC’s idea of scrapping buses into mobile toilets for women is shaping up. First such mobile toilet will be set up outside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. The facility branded as 'Ti' (Marathi word for she) will soon be inaugurated and will be made available at nominal charge, said the civic sources.

Three years ago, notice of motion moved by ex-corporator Sacin Padwal on mobile toilets for women was approved in the general body meeting and the project was expected to be implemented in the F-South ward (Parel) in 2020. However, due to Covid, the project didn't materialise.

Now, A ward comprising Fort and CSMT areas have been selected for ‘Ti’. The project will be implemented on pilot basis and after seeing the response, the number of such utility centres will be increased across the city. These public toilets will also include changing rooms, vending machines for female hygiene products, and a specialised compartment for breastfeeding.

In this facility, there will be three western and one Indian toilet and water and electricity will be provided by the BMC. To assist in case of queries, a female attendant will be always present in the facility.

According to a survey conducted by NGO Praja Foundation, the city has less number of public toilets, with just 25% of them for women.
