Western Railway’s (WR) Railway Protection Force (RPF) is tasked with the responsibility of security of railway property, passenger area as well as passengers and works round the clock for providing safe, secure and comfortable travel experience to the passengers.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the Security Department of WR is deeply concerned about the safety & security of its passengers and is taking every possible effort to safeguard their interests. In the year 2023, 1094 culprits were apprehended and stolen railway property worth almost INR 52.35 lakhs have been recovered. Out of these, in almost 8 cases, the value of recovered stolen property is more than o­ne lakh.

Citing some of the remarkable & noteworthy detections, Thakur stated that the Crime Prevention & Detection Squad (CPDS) of RPF Andheri team worked o­n the information received regarding theft of copper wire from non-working transformers from Andheri sub-station. During the screening of CCTV footages of the incident occurrence night, a four wheeler was found at the time of incident. After tracking the four wheeler, RPF team arrested 12 accused including 1 receiver with 100% recovery of the stolen Railway property of 520 kg copper wire valued more than INR 3 lakhs. All accused are facing trial in the Railway court.
