Tulinj Police arrested a chemist shop owner and his ally for illegally selling medical kits for abortion, allegedly.

Devendra Sharma, the accused is the owner of a medical store in Nallasopara east, claim the police. Krishna Pande, his associate would supply the kits to Sharma. It was the Food and Drug Administration officials, along with the aid of the police force that caught them on Saturday with medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) kits.

The authorities suspect that these kits were utilized to abort female children in the area. According to sources from the police force, the Joint Commissioner of the FDA received a hint on Friday that abortion drugs were not only bought but also sold illegally without a prescription. These events occurred at a registered pharmacy, Balaji Chemist.

A trap was laid on Saturday in the evening at 6 pm. A bait customer was sent into the shop to purchase the abortion medicine which the owner agreed to sell at a higher price. In light of the said actions, he was then arrested. It was, however, during the questioning that he provided details about Pande, who provided him with the kits and they charged an exorbitant price for the same. With this information, Pande too was arrested.

An officer from the Tulinj Police station said that the samples have been sent for testing to the FDA and an FIR has been registered against both, under the IPC and Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
