Charkop police in Kandivali West have registered two separate cases of murder over the weekend. The first one is a 25-year-old woman and the second one is a 70-year-old factory owner. Both incidents are under investigation.
First case
In the first case, 25-year-old Himendra Rana was found dead on September 20. She was allegedly killed by her 41-year-old husband, Dasa Rana. The couple lived in a shed at Ramvijay Co-op Society near Charkop Depot with their son, Paresh. Both husband and wife were daily wage workers. The family was staying near the construction site as the society was under redevelopment.
The case came to light when 56-year-old worker Lalppa Gundiwala from Dahisar West lodged a complaint. He said that he learnt Dasa had strangled his wife. When Gundiwala reached the house, Dasa refused to open the door but later he admitted to a dispute with Himendra over money. He wanted cash to travel to his village, but she refused. This led to a fight.
According to Paresh, his father beat his mother with his fists and then strangled her with a bedsheet. Based on the complaint and statements, police registered a murder case.
Second case
The second incident involved the killing of Muhammad Saiyyad, a metal merchant who ran a small factory in the government industrial zone at Charkop. Saiyyad arrived at the plant as usual on Sunday, September 21. His body was later found inside the factory around noon with knife wounds. Police officers reached the spot after receiving information about the death.
Saiyyad’s was a resident of Bangur Nagar and also owned another plant in Vasai. CCTV footage showed two unknown persons entering the premises before the crime. Police recovered the sharp weapons used in the attack from the factory’s water tank.
