An intern at Nair Dental College, Dipali Lahamate, on March 24 was hit by a car at Marine Drive while she was on her way to JJ Gymkhana at Marine Lines. Dipali was visiting the Gymkhana to attend her brother's convocation who had completed his MBBS.

The police have confirmed that it is a case of rash driving and the girl suffered major injuries to her head and upper body.

Shikha Jhaveri, a teacher, was driving the car with her son on the passenger’s seat when she hit Dipali, between 3:30-4:00 PM, who was trying to cross the road. The driver fled from there but was chased down by a biker. Jhaveri was later arrested and then released on bail.

Dipali’s condition was critical after the accident and she was admitted to Bhatia Hospital at Tardeo. Due to the tight economic conditions of her family, she was shifted to JJ hospital. However, the information of her demise came on Friday, March 30.

The police said that a charge sheet will be filed against Shikha Jhaveri and she will be prosecuted under IPC section 304 A.
