A 31- year old Virar resident from Mumbai was stabbed to death on the road on Monday by some unidentified men. The builder identified as Nishant Kadam who is from Phoolpada was going to Shiv temple which is located near Papadkhind dam around 3 AM when he was attacked by them.

It is said that the killers made their escape in the dark. They were hiding behind the tree and when they saw him, they stabbed Kadam with some sharp-edged weapon which killed him on the spot.

During Shrawan, Kadam used to visit the temple every Monday to offer his prayers. This Monday was the last one of Shrawan. Guidelines issued by the government have led to temples being shut, however, there were few Shiv temples that were open up until 7 AM for devotees to offer their prayers.

Virar police reached the site and are investigating the case. While addressing the media, an officer who is working in the case said that they are not sure if Kadam was alone or not at the time.

The business rivalry could be the primary motive that might have caused the crime, however, Virar police are probing the case from all angles and will question Kadam’s family.

Police are waiting for the post mortem reports to arrive and have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
