In an uncanny incident, a 32-year-old engineer with an MNC pulled off a few pages from his passport to hide a foreign trip from his wife, a police official said on Saturday, July 9.

Reports stated that he wanted to keep his extramarital affair under wraps but was apparently unaware that tampering with the passport is an offense.

Upon returning to India from Maldives, immigration officials at the Mumbai airport noticed that some pages of his passport, which should have had visa stamps for his latest journey, were missing. During the questioning, he was unable to give a satisfactory reply to them. But immigration authorities found pages 3-6 and 31-34 from his passport missing and he was evasive about it.

Later, he was handed over to the Sahar police on Thursday, July 7, and booked for cheating and forgery under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and questioned him.

The man revealed to police officials that he had gone abroad to meet his girlfriend after telling the wife that he was travelling for work in India. When his wife grew suspicious and called him, he did not take her calls. He cut his trip short and also thought of removing pages from the passport so that she would not about his secret foreign trip.
