In another case of a brutal instance of animal cruelty, a 45-day-old puppy was killed by unknown miscreants in the Mira Road area of Mumbai on Sunday, July 11.

Moreover, an FIR has now been lodged by local activists at the Kashmira police station. According to reports, due to the absence of street lights in the area, the officials have been unable to catch the perpetrators as of now.

Meanwhile, activist Vijay Mohanani of the Bombay Animal Rights (BAR) stated, “It is indeed a heinous animal cruelty crime. The paws of the victim pup were also chopped up by unknown culprits. We hope that the cops identify and book them,”

Earlier, an online petition started by People for Animals (PFA) and Humane Society International/India (HSI/India), the country's largest animal protection organisation has garnered more than 7.5 lakh signatures making the call for an amendment to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 louder. Through the petition, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi is being urged to raise the penalties of cruelty against animals which is currently at 50 rupees.
