The incidents of Cybercrimes are on a rise all across the country and Maharashtra is no different. Now to combat this, Maharashtra cyber crime department is mulling to launch a portal dedicated to cybercrimes. This portal will give users first-hand information on trending cybercrimes and even share guidance on how to take precaution against malware.

Brijesh Singh, special inspector general, Maharashtra cyber department, said, “With the new portal, the department aims to make citizens aware of cybercrimes and educate them to safeguard themselves.”

The portal in question will have three different sections. The very first section will deal with all the updated advisories regarding cybercrimes. All the information in this section will be open to all and can be accessed even without a login.

The other two sections of the website will be accessible to only people who create a login. Second section will be dedicated to the private companies and they will get detailed information on how hackers can take control of their system through malware or virus. This section will also educate them on how they can fight such attacks.

The third section will be created for police officers, who will get directions on how to investigate the different types of cybercrimes.

The initiative certainly has its heart in the right place but it is noteworthy that most people that fall under such scams are the ones that are not very versed with the internet space and in such a scenario one must look at other means to educate them on the dos and don’ts of the cyber world.

Recently, an incident had come up, wherein a 65-year-old man in Kharghar had lost Rs 73.5 lakh after fraudsters made him join the membership of an online dating site.
