Arnab Goswami, editor-in-chief of Republic TV, has filed an application in his pending petition before the Bombay High Court requesting the court to stay any further investigation into Anvay Naik suicide abetment case registered against him.

As per reports, Goswami has also sought an interim order to restrain Alibaug police from issuing a charge sheet in the case and to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or some other independent agency beyond the purview of Maharashtra government.

In the past, Mumbai Police reached Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami's residence, barged into his room before arresting him in connection with the suicide of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in 2018. The arrest had reverberated across the country and was strongly condemned by BJP leaders.

Back in 2018, Anvay Naik, who was found dead at the first floor of his farmhouse at Kavir Village in Alibaug had left an alleged suicide note accusing Arnab Goswami. However, the case was closed and was only reopened after Naik’s daughter met the DIG and produced more evidence. This led to the DIG initiating an enquiry against police inspector Suresh Warade, who had handled the case, for closing it ‘without investigating thoroughly’.

In recent developments, the Supreme Court had, on November 11, released the Republic TV editor-in-chief on bail. A speaking order giving detailed reasons for the same was pronounced on November 27. In that order, the top court had said that prima facie, it could not be held that Goswami had abetted the suicide of Anvay Naik.
