Several Adani Electricity consumers, including a politician, two movie personalities and a celebrity fitness trainer, have received fake messages for "power disconnections".
Taking it to Twitter, Maharashtra Energy Minister Nitin Raut also mentioned about several such complaints in Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) supply areas of the state.

The modus operandi is to scare customers and ask them to pay "pending dues" over a payment link. BEST, too, has issued an alert for island city and two days ago. The power firms are alerting citizens not to fall prey to messages coming from unknown numbers.
However, a few consumers have fallen victim to unscrupulous persons claiming to be electricity department officials. Complaints have been registered with the Mumbai police whose cyber cell is conducting a probe.
Official have appealed power consumers to be vigilant against online fraudsters. Also, avoid sharing your personal bank details or OTP to strangers.
