A man threw acid on his wife's face in Navi Mumbai after she refused to accompany him to his sister's house in Hyderabad. The woman is undergoing treatment for her injuries. The person is currently absconding and the police are searching for him.


A 28-year-old man from Panvel was booked on Sunday for throwing acid on his wife's face after she refused to go to his sister's house in Hyderabad. The incident happened on January 20. Accused Ramzan Siddiqui Ghazi, 28, had been pressurizing his wife Amina Khatoon alias Amin Bibi Ramzan Ghazi (28) for the past few days to come with him to Hyderabad and stay for a few days.

She had refused to go to Hyderabad, following which the couple had a fight over the same issue on January 19 and then when she went to sleep, he poured acid on her face. After the incident, she got herself treated at a private hospital and then went to her hometown Kolkata, where she was admitted to a hospital for further treatment. She lodged an FIR in Kolkata which was transferred to Panvel Taluka Police Station on Sunday.


Ghazi and Amina have three children and have been living near Rizwan Company in Khairne village of Wawanje in Panvel taluka for the last three months. The husband was a labourer and the wife worked as a daily wage labourer in a company. The accused has been booked under section 326 (A) (causing hurt by acid) of the Indian Penal Code. The accused absconded after the incident and they are searching for him. He has not been arrested yet.
