The Narcotics Control Bureau has busted an international drug syndicate and seized two kilograms of cocaine from a Zambian national in a hotel in Mumbai. A Tanzanian woman, who was to receive the consignment, has also been arrested from Delhi, the official said, adding the value of the seized drugs is around INR 15 crore.

NCP official says that based on specific information, the NCB Mumbai team raided a hotel here and arrested Zambian national LA Gilmore, who was a drug carrier, on Thursday. The man had gone to Addis from Lusaka, Zambia for a drug consignment. After reaching Mumbai by flight, he checked into a hotel.

The NCB team, which was keeping an eye on his activities, searched his hotel room. They found a bag and after cutting it, two packets of cocaine weighing two kilograms each were recovered, the officer said. During interrogation, the man gave information to NCB officials about some middlemen in the area involved in drug trafficking. It was also observed that he was being guided by a handler, the officer said.

The NCB team then cleverly monitored the communication of Gilmore's handler, who had asked him to go to Delhi to deliver the drug. Following this, the anti-drug agency team from Mumbai reached the national capital, where they reached the designated area for delivery. A Tanzanian woman named MR Augustino, who was to receive the consignment from Gilmore, was stopped and arrested from there later on Saturday, the official said.

During the investigation, the syndicate's international network was found to be spread across many cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Goa.
