Two senior Thane Police Inspectors and two Assistant Commissioners have been suspended and transferred to the control room respectively. They were said to be allegedly allowing dance bars to function, violating state government rules. The names of these dance bars according to certain reports are said to be Amrapali, Nataraja and Antique Palace. Out of these three bars, two are under the jurisdiction of Naupada police station and the other is under the Vartak Nagar police station.

An order that was released in the wee hours of the night by Jaijeet Singh, the Thane Police Commissioner led to the suspension of senior inspectors Anil Mangle (Naupada) and Sanjay Gaikwad (Vartak Nagar). Additionally, based on preliminary inquiry, ACPs Neeta Padvi (Naupada) and Pankaj Shirsath (Vartak Nagar) have been transferred.

This action was undertaken after a sting operation conducted by a Marathi news channel highlighted the bars disregarding the norms issued in light of the pandemic. Staff was operating at full strength; bar girls were dancing and liquor was being served.

Cases have been filed against the dance bars that were operating under the pretence of orchestra bars and the procedure to suspend the license permanently has been initiated, stated a police officer according to reports. The police offer also added that they have written to the Thane Municipal Corporation recommending the sealing of the bar.
