The Shivaji Nagar police have detained two individuals involved in an online drug trade. The accused, a chemist and a delivery man, were allegedly selling codeine-based cough syrup, a narcotic medication.

The police were tipped off about the illicit activity on Friday night. The tip led to the arrest of Abdul Karim Hakim Shah, 27, a resident of Titwala. He was reportedly planning to deliver drugs to Govandi.

Shah, who typically delivers dinnerware from door to door, was also allegedly involved in narcotics deliveries. Upon his arrest, Shah revealed information about his accomplice, Mujeeb Abdul Khan, 30, a resident of Saki Naka in Andheri.

Khan was a pharmacist at a medical supply store. He was reportedly purchasing codeine-based narcotic medications from manufacturers in Punjab using the store's license. These medications are also known as triprolidine hydrochloride, codeine phosphate syrup, or cough syrup.

According to the police, Khan decided to sell codeine to customers at five times its original price due to its high demand. He had partnered with Shah for this illegal operation, using Shah's status as a delivery man to avoid suspicion.

The police have confiscated 1,600 bottles of codeine and cash valued at INR 9,36,100 lakhs from the accused. The seized codeine bottles are estimated to be worth over INR 12 lakh at their current market value.
