Coronavirus Pandemic: CISF and CRPF personnel deployed at these areas in Mumbai

The Maharashtra government has been making relentless efforts at curbing the spread of COVID-19 across the state, especially Mumbai which is the worst-affected region in Maharashtra. Despite their efforts, the government has witnessed various instances of citizens going rogue and even going as far as to attacking on-duty policemen amid the pandemic. Looking at the condition of police personnel, the state government had written to Centre asking for Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) to control the situation.

Following which, nearly five companies of 500 personnel from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were deployed in Mumbai on Sunday night. Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that the CAPF companies sent by the centre have come to the state and have been deployed in Mumbai, Pune, Malegaon, Amravati and other places to ensure that the police personnel in the state get some rest. 

As much as the pandemic has affected the citizens, the policemen have also been at constant risk of contracting the virus. So far, 1,388 police officials in Maharashtra have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to reports, every squad will consist of 100 personnel who will monitor the situation in their designated areas in coordination with the state police. Here is the list of places where the forces will be deployed:

In Zone-1, CISF squads will be deployed in Dongri, Nagpada, Bhendi Bazaar whereas in Zone-3, CISF personnel will be monitoring areas such as Sewri, Lalbaug, Parel, Agripada. In Zone-9, the CISF squad will be deployed at Bandra, Nirmal Nagar, Behram Pada.
