The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit (MZU), arrested a female passenger of Guinean nationality, who arrived at Mumbai International Airport, for smuggling drugs, based on specific intelligence.

The woman landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) from Kenya capital Nairobi, an official said.

On examination, three packets of white-coloured powder were found concealed in the checked-in luggage. Based on the reasonable belief that the said white powder was a narcotic drug, it was tested using the NDPS Field Test Kit. The substance tested positive for Cocaine.

The total quantity of the contraband seized was 2,178 grams, with an estimated international market value of INR 21.78 crore. The drug packets were seized and passenger was arrested under provisions of NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation is under progress.

In another case, on Sunday, April 13, the Mumbai Airport Customs officials had arrested a Ugandan man for allegedly smuggling cocaine worth INR 7.85 crore. The accused passenger had ingested multiple capsules containing cocaine and was hospitalised where the doctors purged capsules.

The Customs officers said that under medical supervision, the doctors recovered 77 capsules purported to be cocaine having a net weight of 785 grams approximately valued at INR 7.85 crore. The said passenger was later arrested.
