Plot Against Poonawala
Investigations into the Baba Siddique murder case revealed that the Bishnoi gang, led by Shubham Lonkar, had previously plotted to kill Poonawala. In late 2022, Lonkar and his associates allegedly monitored areas around Saket court in Delhi, intending to attack Poonawala during one of his court hearings. However, the plan reportedly failed due to Lonkar’s inability to recruit shooters. This information came to light after Lonkar and his brother were arrested in an arms case in January 2023 in Maharashtra. Following their arrest, Maharashtra police informed Delhi authorities, prompting the tightening of security around Poonawala, who is currently held in cell number 4 of Tihar Jail.
Criminal Operations
Further investigations into the Bishnoi gang revealed their involvement in other high-profile crimes, including the murder of Baba Siddique, which they executed after weeks of surveillance. Gang member Shiv Kumar Gautam allegedly confessed to communicating with Lonkar via encrypted apps after Siddique’s murder. Gautam’s interrogation revealed a lack of remorse and deep ideological influence from the Bishnoi gang. His actions after the murder, including evading capture by changing his appearance and misleading police at the crime scene, demonstrated the gang’s calculated approach to criminal operations.
