In a significant operation, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dealt a major blow to a drug smuggling syndicate operating in the region. The operation, which culminated in the arrest of four individuals, uncovered the trafficking of 31 kilograms of Ganja. Acting on precise intelligence, NCB officials apprehended two suspects at LTT Railway station on February 14, seizing the sizable quantity of Ganja in their possession. Interrogation of the detainees revealed vital information regarding the origin of the contraband, which was traced back to Odisha. Furthermore, the suspects provided crucial details about two additional members of the syndicate, leading to their subsequent arrest.

Success Amidst Ongoing Efforts Against Drug Trafficking

This latest triumph marks another success for the Mumbai Zonal Unit of NCB in its relentless campaign against drug trafficking. Just last December, the unit dismantled an international drug trafficking network involved in smuggling pharmaceutical drugs from India to Australia. The operation resulted in the seizure of drugs valued at Rs 3 crore and the arrest of three individuals, underscoring the bureau's unwavering commitment to combating drug-related crimes.

Heightened Vigilance at Mumbai Airport Uncovers Smuggling Attempts

Meanwhile, Mumbai Airport Customs officials have been on high alert, intercepting various smuggled goods, particularly gold, in recent days. Between February 16 and 18, customs authorities seized over 9.83 kilograms of gold, valued at Rs 5.18 crore, along with iPhones and foreign currency totaling 31500 USD across 17 different cases. The contraband items were concealed through ingenious methods such as body cavities, clothing, plastic plates, tang powder, and cabin bags. Authorities are actively investigating the origins of the smuggled gold and the identities of intended recipients, highlighting the rigorous efforts to combat smuggling activities.

Persistent Crackdown on Smuggling Activities

This surge in seizures reflects the steadfast determination of Mumbai airport customs officials in clamping down on illegal trafficking. Passengers, often acting as carriers or mules, are enticed by promises of financial gain from smugglers. The recent uptick in confiscations indicates a proactive stance against smuggling, with authorities seizing smuggled gold worth over Rs 12 crore as of February 12. This ongoing crackdown underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintain the integrity of the nation's borders and uphold the rule of law.
