Mumbai: Man murdered over alleged wallet theft case

A 33-year-old man was killed in a fight over the suspicion of stealing a wallet in the Vikhroli area. Parksite Police have succeeded in arresting the accused in this case. The police informed that a case of murder has been registered against the accused. 


The deceased has been identified as Baliram Nirhu Chauhan (33). He is a native of Bhanpur in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. He was making a living by doing small jobs. He lived near Lagin Sarai Maidan in Parksite area in Mumbai. Accused Sangeet Rao Chavan also lived there. Chauhan had earned money by working as a porter. The wallet containing that amount was stolen a few days ago. He was angry because of that. He suspected that Sangeet Rao had stolen the wallet. Because of that, Baliram was quarreling with Sangeet Rao. He also beat up Sangeet Rao twice. There was an argument between Baliram and Sangeet Rao on Saturday as well.

Vijay Nighod, who was known to both of them at that time, tried to resolve the dispute by mediating. But the enraged Sangeet Rao stabbed Baliram with a knife. Baliram, who was seriously injured, was admitted to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar. He was treated there. Baliram's brother Ramugrah Chauhan (28) was informed about the matter. Accordingly he came to the hospital. Based on his complaint, the police initially registered a case of attempted murder. But Baliram died during treatment. In this case, the Parksite police immediately charged him with the murder section. At the same time, three teams were formed to arrest the accused Sangeet Rao. When they searched the Vikhroli area, they found that Sangeet Rao was in Lower Depopada in Vikhroli West. He was detained from there.


When he was brought to the police station and interrogated, his involvement in the crime became clear. He was then arrested by the Parksite Police. The accused works as a garbage collector. It is revealed that Sangeet Rao killed Baliram with a knife which he used to collect scraps. The police have seized the knife and further investigation is underway in the matter.
