Mumbai: Agniveer trainee from Kerala dies by suicide

A 20-year-old woman from Kerala, an Agniveer who was undergoing Navy training at INS Hamla in Mumbai, committed suicide on Monday morning. According to the police, she took the extreme step due to personal reasons. The deceased was identified as Aparna Nair and had come to Mumbai nearly two weeks ago, said police. She was staying at a hostel in Malwani along with 15-20 girls, Senior Inspector Chimaji Adhav, Malwani police station, said.

For now, police have recorded an Accidental Death Report (ADR). On Monday morning, Nair’s roommate returned to her room at 10:30 am despite knocking repeatedly, Nair allegedly did not open the door. The roommate then informed the others and the door was broken open. They found Nair’s body and rushed her to a hospital where she was declared dead, the police added.


The police are investigating the incident. As per the sources, prior to the incident, the woman was conversing with her relatives over the phone.
