Mumbai airport custom officials arrested an Indian citizen for illegally possessing 2810 grams of cocaine, worth INR 28.1 crores in the market, on Friday, January 6. The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of India had carefully set up a plan to catch the person, who has been identified as Devki Pande, a resident of the state Uttarakhand.

According to the AIU, the cocaine was strategically hidden in the secret layers of a duffle bag, and was seized from the passenger in Mumbai. The passenger was searched, and upon examination of the duffle bag, the cocaine was discovered. In a video shared by news agency ANI, custom officials can be seen searching the bag to reveal the hidden drugs. There were secret compartments in the bag, which revealed the hidden drugs.

Pande claimed that he had been honey-trapped and was given the cocaine by a woman in Ethiopia, whom he had contacted through Facebook. He also said that he was supposed to hand it over to someone in Delhi. The AIU is currently investigating the matter and trying to find the person in Delhi to see if there is a drug racket involved.

Pande may face a jail term of 10 to 20 years under the Narcotics Act. The authorities are also trying to trace the source of the drugs and apprehend the people involved in the racket. This arrest is a significant achievement for the AIU in their efforts to curb drug trafficking in India, but the authorities are determined to continue their crackdown on illegal drugs trade at Indian airports.

The agency suspects the involvement of a drug racket, as this is not the first instance of drug trafficking via Mumbai International airport.

Last week, cocaine and heroin worth INR 47 crores were seized from two people at the airport. The increasing incidents of drug trafficking through airports has raised alarm and the authorities have stepped up their efforts to combat the illegal trade.
