Four members of a family from South Mumbai have died after a suspected case of food poisoning following a late-night meal that included watermelon.

The incident occurred on April 25, 2026, after a family gathering at their home in Pydhonie. Around midnight, several members reportedly consumed watermelon after dinner, following which they began feeling unwell.

The deceased have been identified as Abdullah Dokadia (40), his wife Naseem (35), and their two daughters aged 16 and 13. All four were rushed to a hospital after showing symptoms such as vomiting and severe discomfort, but they died despite treatment.

Police have registered an Accidental Death Report and sent food samples, including the watermelon, for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of death. Preliminary findings suggest food poisoning, but officials have not ruled out other possibilities pending laboratory reports.

An investigation is underway to ascertain how the contamination occurred and whether any toxic substance was involved.
