A 34-year-old man in Mumbai attacked his wife with acid after she filed for divorce. The incident took place in the Malvani area on Wednesday, September 25. The 27-year-old wife suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Cooper Hospital for treatment.
The couple has been identified as Yasmeen Khan and Shabir Khan. In 2019, they had a love marriage, but the relationship fell apart quickly. The woman learnt that her husband was unemployed, addicted to drugs, and had an affair. This led her to leave him and seek a divorce. After this, she had been living with her mother in Malad for the past three months.
On Wednesday morning, September 26, the husband entered her mother's home and took the phones of the victim and her brother. He then splashed acid on her face and fled. As per reports, the victim's mother was also seriously injured during the attack.
After the assault, the woman reported the crime to the police. Police filed a case under several sections of the Bharitya Nayaya Sanhita (BNS). However, the accused is still on the run. The police are on the search to arrest him.
The charges filed include section 124(2) for causing harm with acid, section 311 for robbery with intent to cause death, section 333 for trespassing with intent to harm, and section 352 for insulting with intent to provoke violence.
