A doctor at KEM Hospital in Parel, who was about to go on a trip to Karjat with his friends, lost a lot of money while ordering samosas online. The cyber criminals embezzled about INR 1.5 lakh from his account by engaging him in speech. Bhoiwada police is conducting further investigation in this matter.


The complainant is a resident doctor at KEM Hospital. He planned to go to Karjat with a friend after finishing work at the hospital on Saturday. For that he decided to buy samosas from Gurukripa Hotel. While searching online, they found the hotel's phone number on a website. When the doctor called the number, the person on the other side said that he was speaking from the hotel. The doctor then told the man that he wanted 25 plates of samosas. He asked to pay INR 1.5k in advance and give the details of the transaction on WhatsApp.


After the complainant doctor followed the instructions, the accused said he had to check the transaction number, for that, he was asked to download an application by going to Google Pay and asked me to enter the number 28807 and select the Ad Notes option. After the complainant doctor did what he was told, the accused had to check the transaction number. After doing so, the complainant doctor received a message that INR 28,807 was transferred from his account. The accused then asked the doctor to do various transactions to recover the amount. Therefore, about INR 1.40 lakh were transferred from his bank account.


The person hung up the phone as soon as the doctor told him that I don't want online transactions, I will come and talk to the hotel. That made the doctor suspicious. He immediately lodged a complaint with the Bhoiwada police. Accordingly, the police registered a case under the Prevention of Fraud and Information Technology Act. The police have asked the bank for information about the bank accounts to which the amount was transferred. The official said that further investigation will be done through it.
