Juhu police have detained three people for stripping and assaulting two teenage brothers in Vile Parle (West) on Tuesday, September 24. The two minors, aged 14 and 17, were mistook for thieves by the accused on Monday night, September 23.
According to the police report, the incident happened on the night of September 23 in Nehru Nagar, Vile Parle in Mumbai. The boys had gone to a nearby medical store late at night. There, they were caught by five people, including the main accused, Suraj Patwa, 22.
The boys were beaten severely until they had bruises. The accused then stripped, tied, and paraded them around the neighborhood. Their hair was also cut off by the attackers. A video of the incident was also circulated on the internet.
The boys live with their 60-year-old grandmother in a chawl in Vile Parle. Their mother has passed away, and their father does not support them. On Tuesday, a relative showed the video of the incident to the grandmother. The videos from the internet showed that the boys had been beaten and paraded in their underwear with their heads shaved.
After seeing the footage, the grandmother gave the boys courage to speak up. They told her they were beaten and tortured all night. They were released only in the morning and were threatened to keep quiet about the incident and never return to the neighborhood. In response, the grandmother filed a police report.
A case was registered against three individuals based on the Information Technology Act of 2000, the Bombay Children Act of 1948, and sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 127 (wrongful confinement), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.
