A 26-year-old woman from Vasai (East) was arrested by the Waliv police on Friday, August 23, for allegedly abusing her two stepsons. The incident came to light after the boys’ father, Nagnath Savsagli, filed a complaint against his second wife, Neha.
Savsagli is a rickshaw driver living in Fatherwadi, Vasai East. On Thursday, August 22, he returned home to find his seven-year-old son, Anshul, in pain. Anshul initially said he had fallen. However, after Savsagli urged him to undress, he discovered burn marks on Anshul’s body and severe injuries in his private area.
Later, both Anshul and his eight-year-old brother, Ayush, revealed that their stepmother had been abusing them. The boys said Neha had been torturing them since June for not completing household chores, such as cleaning utensils or sweeping the floor.
The children described how she burned them with a hot knife and hit them with a rolling pin and broom. The boys also claimed that Neha had given them threats of killing them if they told the father about the abuse.
In response, Savsagli immediately took Anshul to the hospital. He then went to the Waliv police station to report the abuse. Savsagli told the police that he married Neha in May last year after divorcing his first wife. He said his sons had been living with him since their mother left the home.
The Waliv police filed a case against the wife under sections 324, 323, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). These charges include assault and criminal intimidation.
The police have issued a notice to Neha to appear for questioning. Investigators are currently recording statements from the victims and neighbours to determine whether the boys had been regularly abused by their stepmother.
