The Western Regional Cyber Police arrested two people who cheated many youths by impersonating a girl's voice while speaking on a mobile phone similar to the movie 'Dream Girl'. The accused were cheating the youth through a matrimony website. The names of the arrested accused are Sunil Modi (62) and Sanket Chavan (23). The accused had duped a young software engineer from Matunga in a similar manner. Based on his complaint, the team of Police Inspector Suvarna Shinde arrested the accused.
Both the accused are in Sarai and were arrested earlier. At that time, both of them got to know each other in Arthur Road Prison. Both met after they were released on bail earlier this year. At that time, Modi created a fake profile in the name of Ashwini Manohar Pandit through fake documents. He created court seals in her name and showed the lady concerned as a Metropolitan Magistrate.
Modi was also working to create fake warrants in the names of people who refused to pay. After creating a profile, many young men approached for marriage on the matrimony website. The accused had used the photograph of a young woman who was active on social media in Nashik to deceive the youth.
