Mumbai’s cybercrime unit will soon move from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to a new location in Bandra West. The new cyber police station will be on the fifth floor of the Mumbai Police Cyber Centre at Lucky Junction, S.V. Road.
The new station will focus only on high-value online fraud cases. Only cases involving amounts above INR 10 lakh will be handled at this facility. Smaller fraud cases below INR 10 lakh will still be handled by local police stations.
A new cyber lab will also open at the Bandra West station. This lab will help in solving complex financial fraud cases. It will have the latest computers, servers, and cybersecurity tools.
The lab will also use updated software and hardware. It will support data recovery, mobile number tracing, and research on cyber crime trends. As per sources, the Cyber Crime Department will also move to the same building.
The new Bandra West station will have eight officers, including a senior inspector. It will also have thirty-five other staff members. The Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Assistant Commissioner of Police will work from the sixth floor.
Mumbai has five cyber police stations in total. These cover the South, Central, East, North, and West regions. Earlier, only the cyber police stations in the South, Central, and East regions had cyber labs. With this new lab in Bandra West, the West zone will now have its own digital forensic facility.
