A nine-year-old boy has died in an accident while traveling in a three-seater rickshaw while he was returning home from Ashwamedha Mahayagya in Kharghar. The incident took place near Pethpada metro station at 2:50 pm on Sunday. It is believed that the victim died due to overcrowding in the auto.

Thousands of devotees had come to Kharghar for the Ashwamedha Mahayagya of the Gayatri Parivar. Many devotees from the state and suburbs used private transport to reach Kharghar, while a large number of devotees reached the Mahayaga by transporting more than capacity in three-seater rickshaws. Three persons were injured and a child was killed in an accident at gate number four of Mahayagna on Sunday afternoon. The injured are undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital in Kamothe. The name of the dead child is Dibyaprasad Nayak. The Nayak family had come to Kharghar from Bhiwandi at 6:30 in the morning for the Mahayagya. After offering Yagya in the afternoon, while he was going in a three-seater rickshaw to return home, the rickshaw driver lost control of the rickshaw and hit the divider as the rickshaw was overloaded with passengers.


In this accident Dibyaprasad died while Dibyaprasad's mother Manjukta Nayak was seriously injured. Police said that Manjukta along with two other passengers in this rickshaw were injured. In this case, the police have registered a case against 28-year-old rickshaw driver Satish Utekar for carelessly driving the rickshaw. Thousands of devotees were entering Kharghar for five days at the place of Ashwamedha Mahayagya at Kharghar. Traffic police were stationed here.
