Businessman and Diamond trader Nirav Modi's Alibaug bungalow, Roopanya, is on the verge of being demolished.

As per reports, district officials already began the work using bulldozers on January 25, 2019, and the demolition will be conducted on Friday. Excavators were used for another phase of demolition on Tuesday where pillars of the bungalow have been opened fix detonators.

Talking about the same, Bharat Shitole, additional collector of Raigad, said, “A special technical team has been called to fix the detonators. The team arrived on Tuesday night and surveyed the bungalow. We have decided to carry out the demolition on Friday morning. The work on opening up the pillars and fixing explosives will continue on a war footing. Work will continue at night as well using floodlights.”

It is being said that the construction is made out of RCC and hence a lot of work needs to be done to fix the detonators. A survey conducted recently by the structural engineers is what led to the decision of using controlled blasting.

Officials will auction the Jacuzzi, a chandelier, and a Buddha statue; and will be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Nirav Modi was accused of being involved in the ₹13,000-crore Punjab National Bank scam and the collector’s office received the required permissions and documents of the bungalow on January 24. Besides this, reports mention that two trucks full of valuables were also taken from the building.
