In an uncanny incident, six women from Rajasthan were detained by the Mumbai police for chain snatching during a public event in Mira Road.

The police were reported of the robbery by 36 women who had attended the event. Then a case of robbery was filed. The public identified two women who were then turned over to the police. They later disclosed the identities of the other four.

All the six women are from Alwar and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. They live in and around Mumbai and Thane. They have been involved in such chain snatching activities previously in the area. The women have been identified as Geeta Sardar (45), Hema Surya (30), Setu Karambir (20), Pinky Rahul (25), Reshma Babariya (55), and Soniya Anil (22).

The women robbed the gold valued at INR 4.87 lakhs. The stolen goods have not been recovered yet. The police suspect that there may have been more women involved in the crime.

Victims reported that their chains were taken as soon as the event began and people started to enter. The police have detained the six women for questioning and are investigating the incident further. The police have also warned the public to be cautious and vigilant at such public events.

Owing to this, a two-day religious festival in Salasar Central Park Ground in Mira Road, organised by self-proclaimed godman Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, turned into chaos and commotion.

The event, attended by almost two lakh devotees, resulted in a stampede-like situation which left one woman injured.

The lack of management to handle such a large crowd caused the chaos. Anti-superstition organisations opposed the event and asked the police to deny authorisation for the same. However, police officials increased security at the entry points of the venue for the event on Sunday, March 19.

Many followers had come to the festival with a lot of faith and hope, hoping that Shastri would cure their illnesses.

Sunita Gawli, one of the complainants, wrote her daughter's name on a chit and tied it around her neck, hoping that Shastri would cure her daughter's illness. However, in the chaos, she lost her mangalsutra, the only gold ornament she owned. Meanwhile, Shobhawati Yadav lost her gold chain while entering the temple, due to the lack of crowd control officers. Geeta Prajapati believed she dropped her mangalsutra in the throng and later found out that it was stolen.
