In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, only 500 police employees had applied for postal ballot paper.

After the Election Commission's (EC) appeal, a large number of voters can be seen taking part in the elections and although Mumbai Police has tightened the security, they will also be casting their vote. More than 10,000 police officers have registered from post to vote during this year's Lok Sabha elections whereas in 2014, only 500 had applied for a postal ballot paper.

There are 53,000 employees in Mumbai Police. Due to their patrolling at various places, they are unable to get time to vote. Some are even deployed outstation and therefore they can go to any nearby police station and fill in form 12 to cast their vote.

Form 12 is the application for postal voting papers.

As compared to 2014, there has been a tremendous increase in the number of people voting and in this regard, the senior officials have been instructed to increase awareness about voting to their junior officials.
