Of the 70 FIRs which Mumbai Police had filed during 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the courts were able to convict the arrested accused from only eight cases. Meanwhile, some of the cases are still pending and in other matters, either the accused have been acquitted or the case has been dismissed. 

According to media reports, one of the pending cases is regarding the violation of model code of conduct. According to the police, in such cases, it becomes difficult to gather the evidence.  

Of the 70 cases, 56 were registered in Mumbai suburbs while the remaining cases were filed in South mumbai. As per the statistics, 36 cases are in the trial stage, 12 in the initial FIR stage. After police filed a closure report, 13 cases were closed.

Earlier in 2014, during the election period, four violence-related incidents took place which left two people injured. Apart from this,  an MNS activist was booked for a Facebook post which had “objectionable remarks” against a prominent leader of the state.
