Mumbai: Truck Driver arrested in a hit-and-run case of 12-year-old boy

According to reports, on Monday, February 7, the cement truck driver, who had fled the spot after knocking down the boy, was traced and arrested from Jogeshwari (East). The truck driver was nabbed within 36 hours with the help of technical support.

In a tragic hit-and-run incident, a 12-year-old boy, who was riding a bicycle with his father and two other friends, died after a truck collided on the Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) on Sunday, February 6.

The mishap occurred around 5.10 am on JVLR near Sariput Nagar bus depot. Aksha and his father used to go cycling regularly during weekends, said police.

The deceased identified as Aksha, student of Class VII, a resident of Jogeshwari (East), was riding his cycle along with his father Madhurendra Malu, 42, and his friends Alok and Mitesh. The truck driver sped away after the accident. He was mowed by the rear wheel of the heavy vehicle. The boy was thrown off on the divider and sustained severe head injuries. He died of grievous head injuries.

The truck driver was nabbed within 36 hours of the mishap with the help of technical support, officials stated.

An FIR was registered under IPC sections for rash and negligent driving causing death, along with hit-and-run sections under the Motor Vehicles Act at the MIDC police station on Sunday.

The accused driver, Premlal Verma (40), will be produced before the Andheri court today, February 8. 

Verma has confessed to committing the offence and has been booked under IPC section 304 (A) (causing death due to negligence) and under the Motor Vehicle Act.
