Two people have been arrested in case of smuggling Earth Boa snakes. Snakes worth Rs 55 lakh were seized on Tuesday. Earth Boa is known as 'Mandul' in Konkan area. The snakes are used for medicinal use or black magic.
Assistant Police Commissioner Bharat Shelke stated that police got the tip off regarding the smuggling. The arrested men were identified as Sandeep Ravindra Pandit (21) and Ananta Vitthal Godvinde (47).
Senior Inspector Ravindra Doiphode along with the members of NGO Nisarg Vidnyan laid a trap and caught them moving cautiously in Panchpakhadi. They were found carrying two snakes in the sack. A case under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 is registered against them.
