Two youngsters on Thursday were arrested by the Mumbai police for flying a drone at Ram Gulab Marg near the Ballard Pier around 10:00 in the night. The MRA Marg police caught two people for the offence.

Two accused were booked and are identified as Yusuf Firoz Lokhandwala and Huzefa Idris Muktiyar. The two claim that they purchased the drone for ₹1200 and were flying the drone for fun.

The police informed that flying drones, para-gliders, and microlight aircraft are banned in the city due to security reasons and to deter the terrorist attacks. The police said that these two accused did not take permission for flying a drone.

Senior inspector of MRA Marg, Sukhlal Varpe informed that the accused have been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 188 – disobedience to order duly promulgated by the public servant. The police said that they regularly inform public about this ban and reasons for the ban.

Thus, it is mandatory to take permission from the police or concerned authority in order to fly a drone in the city, the police added.
