An unemployed Mumbai man, who was promised a job by the fraudsters in Indigo Airlines as a ticket checker, was duped of INR 3.79 lakhs between June 1 and August 18. The cyber fraudsters posed themselves as officials from the airlines.

The resident of Wadala, who is survived by his wife and a son, previously ran tuition classes. He revealed that due to the ongoing pandemic he had to shut his classes and was in search of another job. In June, he came across the advertisement of a ticket checker in Indigo Airlines on shine.com.

After calling the number provided in the advertisement, a woman who posed herself as an official from Indigo Airlines had a telephonic conversation with the man and asked him to pay the registration fees to appear for an online examination, which was held on June 3. Later, he received an email stating he has got the job.

After the mail, a woman got in touch with the 42-year-old asking him to pay more money for a gate pass, IT transactions, etc. Later, another woman called him asking him to pay more money for the same purpose.

Upon realizing they were fraudsters, the victim filed an FIR on August 30 at the Wadala police station, who is currently tracing two women.
