In recent developments, several social media accounts have been identified for having attempted to malign the image of Mumbai Police and the state government by discrediting the investigation into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, as per Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Param Bir Singh.

Moreover, he has instructed the cyber cell to investigate the matter and register cases under provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act. The Commissioner of Mumbai Police had earlier alleged that certain media channels had deliberately defamed the Mumbai Police, with regards to the case of Sushant Singh Rajput.

A police investigation has revealed that 80,000 fake accounts had been set up to discredit the Maharashtra government and the Mumbai police. In addition, further investigations have revealed that more than one lakh accounts have been used to do so. For this, seven bot applications have been used and with the help of one bot application, six to seven thousand social media accounts were handled. It has also been concluded that the 'bot application' was being handled through certain IP addresses which the Police are investigating, as per reports.

Earlier on Thursday, the Mumbai Police had busted fake rackets and shared more details regarding the same in a press conference held in the city. Singh had claimed that the channels were manipulating the TRP ratings and the data released by BARC.

According to sources, four people, including the owners of two small channels have been arrested and the directors and promoters of Republic TV are being investigated for the rating fraud as of now. Even though Arnab Goswami has denied all allegations regarding the same, the channel had earlier aggressively dispelled the idea of suicide and built a specific narrative riddled with conjecture around the late actor’s death.
