Mumbai's Siddhivinayak Temple closed for 'darshan' till further orders

As per the latest notification by the Maharashtra government, religious places will remain closed due to the rise in COVID- 19 cases. Therefore, the Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) has also decided to shut Sai Baba temple in Shirdi, Maharashtra.

After the Maharashtra government issued fresh guidelines and restrictions amid rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra, Mumbai's Siddhivinayak Temple will remain shut with effect from April 5, 2021, 8 pm till April 30, 2021, for devotees till further orders.

However, the daily affairs inside the temple premise will go on as usual, though accommodation and 'prasadalay' (dining hall for devotees) will remain closed, he said.

Meanwhile, there will be no darshans in the Siddhivinayak temple from 8 pm tonight. The issuing of QR code for darshans have also been discontinued, but live pooja will be showcased on digital platforms. Only the priest and staff will remain present during the aarti.

This comes after the Maharashtra government decided to put lockdown-like restrictions in the state, including night curfew and weekend curfew. The new rules and guidelines - clamping curfews at night and stringent restrictions under Section 144 clamped during the day - came into effect from April 5.

Maharashtra has been the worst hit in the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, April 5, Mumbai reported as many as 9,857 new cases, mounting the overall caseload in the city to 4,62,302. About 74,522 are active cases. With 21 more fatalities, the death toll has reached 11,797.
