As per reports, the State Education and Sports Department released a list of 300 Zilla Parishad schools on Monday, October 26, that it plans to turn into “model schools” in the first phase.

According to a report in Indian Express, the state government plans to nurture merit in education, achieve higher standards of academics and promote the overall development of a child. Moreover, a notification by the government stated that the goal is to bring parents to such schools, making students feel like coming to schools even on Saturdays and Sundays and participate actively during school hours. Furthermore, it added that these model schools envision an administrative set-up such that teachers enjoy teaching and remain with a particular school for at least a period of five years.

Moreover, facilities such as independent toilets, drinking water facilities, well-maintained buildings and classrooms, playgrounds, sports equipment, ICT labs, science labs and libraries are touted to be made available. As stated in the National Education Policy, model schools should serve as the function of a “school complex” so that other schools and teachers can use their facilities.

In the month of March, the plan to develop model schools was announced in the state assembly. Based on geographical maps, schools with Classes I to VII have been selected from each taluka.
