In a significant development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed nearly 80 per cent of geo-mapping work in the city’s 900 kindergartens.

According to reports, the BMC has undertaken the survey to collate data for providing amenities to students and even starting a new kindergarten if there is a need.

Besides, with the help of geo-mapping, the civic body is trying to know about the surroundings of such schools. It will also help them identify if there is a need for a nursery school depending on the ward’s population, an official stated.

In addition, the survey will also help to know if there is proper infra and basic amenities like drinking water and toilets. Hence, adequate budgetary provision could be made based on the statistical facts, official mentioned.

For this, the BMC appointed teachers and trained them for uploading the survey data, collected on several parameters, on the state government’s portal.

Meanwhile, it is pertinent to note that there are several state-run kindergartens too in Mumbai. However, the state needs to take permission from the Centre for starting a new kindergarten. But the BMC has no such restriction as the civic body can independently start such schools.

Official further remarked that the data collected for kindergarten run by the state and BMC will be consolidated and decisions will be taken accordingly.
