Speaking about the upcoming examinations, Varsha Gaikwad, State education minister, asserted that the board examinations for classes 10 and 12 would not be possible before May.

She further stated that Maharashtra is touted to resume schools and colleges for class 9 to 12 immediately after Diwali. Speaking about the same, Gaikwad added that the department aims to open schools and colleges for older students first so that the board examinations along with the academic year does not face any delay.

Furthermore, speaking about the pandemic, she stated that the government does not want to hurry as it does not want to close schools immediately after reopening them because of the nature of the contagious disease. She also took the example of Andhra Pradesh and Delhi and vouched for a more staggered method of reopening schools. However, the final decision rests with CM Uddhav Thackeray, Gaikwad said in conclusion.

Meanwhile, the state government is expected to issue an SOP for schools and colleges on the lines of the ones issued for teachers, for whom 50 per cent attendance has been made mandatory. However, officials from the department have stated that the decision will be taken keeping in view the COVID-19 situation in the entire state, although the local authorities will have the power to differ depending on the situation.
