COVID 19 outbreak: Schools in Mumbai go for an early spring break

As the COVID 19 is spreading in the city, several schools in Mumbai have decided to give a break to students. They are planning to make the best use of technology and online resources to continue to impart education and give students and early break. They will also be making use of this break time to sanitize the school premises.

There have been two confirmed cases in Mumbai so far. The couple in question had travelled to Dubai with the Pune couple that had tested positive on Monday. The Mumbai-based couple is said to be in an isolation ward at BMC-run hospital and being tended to by experts. The school in the same premise as this couple had decided to declare a holiday on Thursday afternoon and will continue to do till Monday.

Other schools too are trying to take all precautions. One such school is The Cathedral and John Connon School, Fort, which has announced that the school will on March 31 with an exception of students who are appearing for exams.

Even Dhirubhai Ambani International School (DIAS) at BKC and Oberoi International schools have advanced their spring break. The spring break was to start from March 14 but it has now started from March 13. These schools were to open on March 26, which is what they are planning to do.

At the time of filing the story, there were 82 cases reported till date in the country out of which 17 were from Maharashtra. There is still no official word by CM on whether the schools should be closed or not. He did tweet that Swimming pools, gyms, malls, cinema halls etc will remain shut till March 31 and also advised employers to let their employees work from home.
