With the onset of the new fiscal year, hostel rent, mess fees, examination fees, registration and medical have been shot to a new high in the premier engineering institute, IIT-Bombay. Hostel Rent has been increased up to 300%. From Rs 500 per semester, the rent has increased up to Rs 2,000. Mess advance was raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 i.e. 33%. The gym fees went up by 170%.
Well amidst all hike there is a reduction in annual concessional tuition fees of Rs 10,000 which has been reduced to Rs 5,000. It was almost after 20 years that the rents have been hiked, students claimed that they were not consulted before the hike.
